02 — What It Is

The Idea

Garbage Remindr is a small light that lives on or near your bin. It knows your local pickup schedule and changes colour as collection day approaches. Green means you're good. Yellow means tomorrow. Red means today — get those bins to the curb. No calendar reminders, no mental load. Just a glance.

Green
All clear. Pickup is days away. No action needed.
Yellow
Heads up. Pickup is tomorrow. Time to sort and bag.
Red
Today's the day. Get the bins to the curb.

Concept Locked In

The concept is defined: a small, self-contained device that mounts to or sits near your garbage bin. Connects to WiFi, pulls your local pickup schedule, and uses a simple green-yellow-red LED sequence to tell you when to act. Bare bones electronic design is underway — targeting the same ESP32-C3 platform as Rain Remindr to keep the architecture consistent across products.

FAQs

During setup you enter your pickup days through the on-device web interface. The device handles the rest — counting down and changing colour as the day approaches.
Yes — for initial setup and time synchronization. Once configured, it could technically run offline using its internal clock, but WiFi keeps it accurate and allows for schedule changes.
That's the plan. The colour system can be extended to distinguish between waste streams — different patterns or colour combinations for garbage vs. recycling vs. compost. Still working out the best UX for this.
Designed to sit on or attach to your bin — either magnetically or with an adhesive mount. Small enough to be unobtrusive, bright enough to catch your eye when it matters.
No. Same philosophy as Rain Remindr — this isn't here to live on your phone. It's a physical indicator you glance at. Setup is done through a web interface on the device, then you forget about it.
